The nickel steel barrels are equally analyzed, being subjected into a force thirty p.c in excess of stress formulated by the cartridge the barrel is meant to get chambered for. Ned Schwing mentioned in his reference book within the Design 1890 & 1906 that Winchester commenced proof marking them in 1908… I do not know if that is certainly exact, but will assume that it is. The “WP” proof mark was utilized following the barrel and receiver were being mated, assembled and concluded. This is highly evident within the firearms made during the late teenagers via early 30s once the blue flaked (popped) off once the proof was struck about the receiver frame.
